Gil's Honeybees makes beeswax products, such as candles and skin lotions, from melted honey wax capping. And their honey is always raw, unheated, and unfiltered.
Their raw honey is also pesticide-free and 100% natural, just as the bees made it. Gil's Honeybees separates each honey variety by the season (thus the variance in colors and richness), and they use natural beekeeping methods.
The bees feed on their own honey throughout the winter, as opposed to having their honey swapped out for sugar replacements like some keepers do. You might not find that as interesting as I do, but it's nice that the food they labored to product isn't just yanked away from them during cold winters. They earned it.
Gil's hives are located in natural areas in the New York Finger Lakes, where the bees have minimal exposure to pollutants and chemicals. I've never been to the Finger Lakes area, but I've heard it's a beautiful place. Ever heard the phrase "Ithaca is gorges?" Not gorgeous, but gorges.
There are several honey varieties to choose from as of this writing, and there is also limited amounts of creamed honey as well (good for spreading on toast). Gil's usually harvests three times a year for separating honey collected from different flowers, so you've got a few varities to pick from.
Eat local honey and support the bees! Check out a short bee infographic I posted about why they matter.
In the mood for honey now?! Gil's Honeybees is graciously offering a raw honey sampler set (three jars) including basswood, buckwheat, and goldenrod to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.
