Socks from North Star Alpacas [giveaway]

Unless you saw my alpaca post recently, I bet you've never considered buying stuff made with alpaca fiber. Alpacas (not to be confused with llamas) are native to South America.

My new friend, Maple of North Star Alpacas, lives in my wife's home state of Michigan, where she's eager to get up in the morning, get to the barn, and take care of her 20 alpacas and two horses. I envy that life...

Maple loves working with her fleeces. She washs, dyes, picks, cards, and spins the gorgeous fleece that the alpacas grow. That's a lot of work! Some of the fleece is sent to Zeilinger's mill in Frankenmuth, Michigan to be made into roving. The mill also spins her sock yarn, which is then sent to Minnesota to be knit into socks.

And we're going to be giving away some socks!

Socks, and one of Maple's horses on the beautiful farm!

Did you know there are more than 20 natural shades of their fiber? It's soft like cashmere and stronger than wool. Soft and strong is not very common. It's unique in that it's extremely light, yet retains the ability to keep you (and the alpacas) very warm.

My first experience meeting alpacas in July.

Maple's alpaca socks are 60% alpaca fleece, 20% Corriedale sheep fleece, and 20% nylon.
  • The 60% alpaca in these socks is from the farm's alpacas.
  • The 20% wool is from a friend's Corriedale sheep.
  • The 20% nylon is added to the yarn so that the socks will wash nicely and hold shape.

The top of the socks is stitched with elastic, so they stay up on your leg. The weather is cooling off finally, so I can wear these around the house comfortably. Very warm for being such a lightweight material. I can't wait to give these a test when it's below freezing and the ground is covered in snow.

Check out the shop for hats, scarves, insoles, and other items. There are more than 2,400 positive reviews so you can expect quality stuff.

So who wants a pair of socks?! Maple at North Star Alpacas has been gracious enough to offer a pair of crew-style alpaca socks to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

  16. The perfect of all items on your list - I have found my choice to being that of the Gold Baby Alpaca Scarf, Triangle Bandana Scarf, Triangle Cowl, Lace Patterned Scarf for Women made with Baby Alpaca Yarn - A

After gazing at each item so wonderfully hand-made, it became obvious that the person to whom it would go is a person that does event planning and other's are sure to see her wearing it - therefore I came to realize that this scarf would offer something that'll go with everything that she normally wears!
