A long time ago (not in a galaxy far away), before sugar was readily available, candy was made from honey. Thank you, bees! Honey was used to coat fruits and flowers to preserve them or to make candy.
Candy also used to be a form of medicine, like for calming the digestive system or soothing a sore throat. Cough drops and lozenges really aren't that different from candy. Interesting, huh?
