Amazon gift card and Carrie Butler's "As We Know It"

Discover new ways to share daydreams...

Carrie Butler is an award-winning author and the owner of Forward Authority full-service studio. She's also an inbound-certified marketer with a penchant for superhero socks and Firefly. I didn't know she was a marketer until I started writing this, so I may have to pick her brain as a fellow marketer.

Time away from Carrie's desk is spent playing with her rescue pup (he's cute - look for him on her site), yelling at the TV during hockey season, and indulging in target-based recreation.

A mix of thriller, suspense, and romance, As We Know It is a fictional account of a real threat.
Deep beneath the ocean, stretching hundreds of miles alongside the Pacific Northwest coastline, lies the Cascadia subduction zone—a fault on the verge of unleashing a catastrophic earthquake, thirty times more powerful than the San Andreas. Unfortunately, like most tourists, Elena Cordova is oblivious.

She’s got her own pent-up stress to deal with, a humiliating breakup that’s driven her to end her tenure as a human doormat once and for all. So, when a pickpocket makes off with the last remnant of her relationship, she takes action—only to get trapped with him when disaster strikes.

Now, if either one hopes to survive, they’ll have to get past their initial impressions and work together . . . because in fifteen minutes, half the town will be underwater.

Still curious about the author? Here's a quick Q&A about books with Carrie...

What inspires you to write?
Music, art, strangers, news, movies, books, scenery—unexpected sparks that light up the day-to-day. Whatever story they inspire is something I feel soul deep, and I want to share that with my readers. Maybe it’ll reach them on a different wavelength, maybe their experiences will shape it into something else, but we’ll both feel it on some level. That’s what keeps me writing.

How long does it take you to write a book, on average?
I wrote my debut in three months, but that was nearly seven years ago. Now that life has become a bit more hectic... almost a year (on and off). I’m still knee-deep in books, in the meantime, though! I own a graphic design company that primarily caters to authors, so the industry is never far from mind.

What are you working on right now?
I just started drafting a fantasy series I outlined (and shelved) in 2014. I haven't released many details yet, but I can say it riffs off of both historical events and fairytales...

What's the best writing tip you can offer?
Don’t let anything get in the way of good storytelling. Trends will change, processes will evolve, and those hard-and-fast rules everyone recites will phase out of existence. But readers? They’re always going to want a well-crafted literary escape.

What's a book written by another author everyone should read in their lifetime?
Oh, that’s a tough one! Rather than pin down a single book, I’ll just point everyone in Lisa Regan’s direction. If you like crime/suspense novels, her writing has the perfect ratio of grit and humanity.
