Giveaway: Free entry to any Spartan Race in the continental U.S.

Last year I participated in the Spartan Race sprint at Fenway Park in chilly November (thankfully no water obstacles!), and it was more challenging than I expected. I decided to ditch my knee brace and instead use kinesio tape, and it was much more streamlined and easy to run with. When you're climbing over stuff and crawling on the ground, tape is less of a nuisance than a brace.

The race throws all kinds of curve balls at you, and some things you just don't train for, like crawling a hundred yards underneath taught ropes (or barbed wire) at an incline. The incline makes it infinitely tougher. When was the last time you saw someone at the gym crawling?

Spartan Race has a handful of ballpark races, and if you're nearby one of 'em, you should consider signing up. It gives you the chance to run throughout the park - even on the field - and it's a rare experience. I'm looking forward to Fenway again this year.

Spartan Race has a couple new things in the works too. Did you know there's a season pass you can purchase for 2015? Join now for unlimited racing, special travel discounts, and more.

There's also a new podcast with founder Joe De Sena which premieres the first week of this month. And if it's anything like his book, Spartan Up!, it will be a terrific motivator.

"Joe’s interviews with authors, academics, athletes, adventurers, CEOs and thought leaders will shift your thinking, make you laugh and and give you the tools you need. He’s on a mission to find the secrets to success in all aspects of life. Not only does Joe interview epic people, he has brought together an amazing panel to break down and analyze every aspect of these interviews. We give you the ultimate blueprint and action steps to assimilating these powerful conversations into your own life."
