$50 Amazon gift card and author Samie Sands [giveaway]

Need a bit of suspense and terror in your next book? How 'bout one written by a zombie lover?

Samie Sands is a freelance graphic designer who followed her lifelong dream and uses her creativity in a new way by writing. With a degree in Media Studies and PR, Samie has already had articles published in a number of e-zines, including one of the most popular pieces at Zombie Guide Magazine.

She lives in a small seaside town in the UK, but loves to travel to gain inspiration from new places and different cultures.

Author Samie Sands has a three-part zombie series called AM13 Outbreak. All three books are available now, and you can get them free on Kindle today!

Leah Watton’s practical joke has spiralled way out of control—all to impress a crush…

With a prank online video, Leah hopes to catch the attention of Jake Colton, a cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed co-worker she’s had a crush on for months. But instead of sending it to Jake, she manages to forward the clip to her boss—who buys every gory second.

When mass panic ensues, Leah learns the video is more than a staged act…

Still curious about the AM13 Outbreak series and the author? Time for an interview with Samie...

What inspires you to write?
For my first book, I wrote the book I wanted to read. I'd read a lot of book based in the zombie apocalypse and I found that the characters were always very capable. It made me wonder what would happen with an ordinary person trying to survive. Leah in Lockdown is normal, girl next door type without any skills to survive. Sometimes she's flawed and she doesn't always make the right choice, but that makes her more realistic.

How long does it take you to write a book, on average?
From the first idea to the finished book, I would say it takes me about a year. I feel like I have to do a few drafts to get it right, and I need to leave a gap in between each draft so I can create some distance to help me spot plot holes. Sometimes I get so involved in the story and the characters that I forget the reader doesn't know as much as me about the worlds I've created!

What are you working on right now?
Right now, I've just signed a contract for a completely different book. It's called Lottie Loves and it's very different from the zombie apocalypse in the Am13 Outbreak series. That isn't done though, I will be writing more!

What's the best writing tip you can offer?
That a terrible first draft is better than writing nothing. Sometimes it's hard to just get started, but once you get past that hump and you get the general idea down, you can go back and make things right afterwards.

What's a book written by another author everyone should read in their lifetime?
In the apocalypse genre, I would say Outpost by Adam Baker. It's a zombie style book, but with a real difference. I love it, I could read it over and over again!

Still curious about the The Witches of BlackBrook series and the author? Time for an interview with Tish...

What inspires you to write?
I grew up watching superhero cartoons and have always loved anything along those lines. Anything based on fantasy, myth or magic, were all things that sparked my imagination which fed straight into my writing.

How long does it take you to write a book, on average?
It depends. I've written a book in three months, while others have taken over a year.

What are you working on right now?
Dark Seeds, which is a short-story novella from my Ovialell series. It's to be part of a "witchy" anthology coming out this October.

What's the best writing tip you can offer?
Do your research and don't give up. Keep working towards your goal, but make sure you're always bettering your craft.

What's a book written by another author everyone should read in their lifetime?
Harry Potter, and another I love is Falling Out of Focus by Brynn Myers.

Amazon gift card and author Angela Ford [giveaway]

What if you gambled with the fate of the world?

Angela J. Ford is an imaginative and entertaining writer who creates stories of fanciful worlds that enable young adults to confidently believe in possibilities and overcome differences to be stronger together. She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, not too far from my wife's stomping grounds.

After high school, she moved to Nashville, TN, where she currently resides, to pursue a degree in Music Business at Belmont University. Although her career has not been largely focused on creative writing and being an author, it has been an integral part of her lifestyle.

Brought up as a bookworm and musician, she began writing The Four Worlds, a fantasy action, adventure series at the age of 12. What was I doing at 12? Certainly not writing any books...

The story line of Angela's books was largely based on creative games she played with her sisters. She later re-wrote The Four Worlds series, bringing it from a child's daydream to an adventure everyone can enjoy.

The Five Warriors is the first book in her series, followed by The Blended Ones (book 2) and Eliesmore and the Green Stone (book 3). A fourth book is coming in 2018.

Inspired by fairy tales, high magic and epic fantasy, Angela knows you’ll enjoy your adventures within The Four Worlds.

“Are there beings with the ability to shift forms?” he asked.
She reached out a hand to caress his serious face and laughed lightly. “Why would you ask me that?”
“Tell me, would I know if I saw one?”
“You are serious.” She stood, letting the moonlight filter through the waves of her waist-length hair. “Changers are old beings from the beginning of time, the last scraps of the creator’s spark which formed this World. You would be unlikely to meet one, for they are above us; too distinguished to flirt with the people groups, and too haughty to lower themselves to live with the immortals.” Her long fingers rested on the balcony, gripping it tightly as she continued. “If you ever met one it would be unexplainable. They have two forms which makes them indestructible. One is physical and another is spirit.”
“Would you know if you met a Changer?” he pressed. “Are they dangerous?”
She laughed again, her voice rippling gently through the air like the tinkling of silver bells on a crisp night. “Dangerous? There are no creatures in the World more powerful or dangerous.”
“What if I met a Changer? What should I do?”
She turned back to him, bending to take his face in her hands. Her intense gaze met his questioning eyes. “Run as fast as you can and never stop.”

So who wants a book or something?! Angela Ford and I have partnered up to give away a $30 Amazon gift card to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Amazon gift card & natural Day Dream Soaps [giveaway]

I did a soap giveaway with Day Dream Soaps in August of last year and I'm back on the soap train again!

Day Dream Soaps is run by Krystal and her family in Michigan, and she's always been interested in pure and natural things. She started creating products for her family like lip balm, body butter, and even beard oil. What does beard oil do? I have no idea.

Krystal has two granddaughters, one of which has sensitive skin and many allergies. As a result, her granddaughter has had reactions to store bought items, including soap. I know the feeling very well being fair-skinned and all.

Most importantly, Krystal loves her job and creating each soap. She listens to customers and the number one request is, do you have something for dry, sensitive skin? This issue is addressed with most of the soaps in the shop. Most of the soaps are cold process, hot process soaps made as well.

Pictured above is the soap for sensitive skin, a great bar of soap for sensitive, dry, irritated skin. It's made with calendula tea, calendula-infused olive oil and aloe juice, and colloidal oatmeal to sooth your skin. It also has olive oil, coconut oil, and shea butter which are great for sensitive or dry skin. It has a bubbly, creamy, conditioning lather.

This bar lacks artificial coloring and fragrance (otherwise it wouldn't be suitable to us sensitive folks), but it does contain essential oils of lavender, orange, and patchouli. As you can see, the color is a natural light yellow from the calendula petals. If you ask me, it kinda looks like cheese.

You can get the most out of your handmade soap by treating it with care. How 'bout a soap dish? I bought one and it's lasted a year!

So who wants to win something?! Day Dream Soaps and I are offering a $10 Amazon gift card and two bars of sensitive skin soap to a lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Kindle Fire & Curse Breaker: Darkens [giveaway]

In a land where magic is their only hope, can a man of faith triumph?

In 2014, life set a deadline for author Melinda Kucsera. Her sister, Carolyn, died at the age of 29. Carol's last words were a request - she made Melinda promise to publish her stories. At first, the prospect daunted Melinda as she had no idea how to make it a reality.

So she started a blog and put out the first chapter of Curse Breaker: Enchanted. Readers loved it and lobbied her to publish it.

On her late sister's birthday, Melinda published Enchanted in its entirety. In the Author's Note at the end of the book, she promises to never stop writing or publishing until she has no more stories left to tell.

Curse Breaker: Darkens picks up where Enchanted left off, although you can read it as a stand-alone book or as part of the series. Enjoy!

God’s never had a warrior quite like Jerlo on his side.

That’s probably a good thing since a body and a book are unaccounted for. Both formerly belonged to a vanquished demon, but neither were found when the dust cleared. The question of what happened to them prods Jerlo to seek out the one person he swore he’d never speak to—a man everyone thinks is long dead.

Jerlo’s relentless quest leads to the oubliette and a psycho’s cell where shadows of his past take him captive. Jerlo must outwit the dark force rising in his home without magic before he falls under its sway. The life of his ward hangs in the balance.

One wrong move and the young man God asked him to protect will end up a mindless automaton, or worse, dead.

So who wants to win something?! In celebration of the release of Curse Breaker: Darkens, Melinda and I have partnered up to give away a Kindle Fire to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Into the Air by author A.K. Downing [giveaway]

How 'bout a good read from a National Indie Excellence Award Finalist?

Growing up in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, A.K. Downing (Aimee) spent her summers exploring the fields, woods, and orchards of her grandparents' farm. She was inspired by survivalist websites to become an author and create a story that weaves together the best aspects of young adult fiction – adventure, teenage angst, and a hint of romance.

Aimee studied graphic design at Kent State University and currently works as a Creative Director. She enjoys history and camping and feels there is no better way to see the world than from the top of a horse.

A.K. Downing's young-adult novel, Into the Air, is a 2017 National Indie Excellence Award Finalist. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the story follows the adventure of teenager Mia Bryn as she leaves the safety of her underground compound and tries to survive in a world no one has inhabited for more than a hundred years.

When Mia Bryn escapes her underground compound and travels into the air, she never imagines her world will explode. Separated from her father and attacked by creatures she never knew existed, Mia flees into the forest.

Within hours, she finds an abandoned girl, discovers a link to her missing mother, and meets beautiful, golden-eyed Archer.

But why is an ordinary girl from a compound being hunted? And how can Mia survive in a world she knows nothing about?

So who wants a book?! A.K. Downing and I have partnered up to give away a paperback copy of Into the Air to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Jennifer modeling Epethiya's sunset mountain leggings

I discovered Epethiya thanks to coming across a giveaway of their own and we talked about partnering together. I also knew my wife would love to try the leggings.

Have you ever come across comfortable leggings? Sure, but what about with high quality fabric? Fabric that won't rip if you catch it on something. You'll get compression fit performance fabric that's milled in Montreal. Made to last, the fabric won't lose shape and the vibrant prints never fade. Opaque and safe to wear for working out.

Combining cutting-edge design with an affordable price tag, Epethiya brings you the latest looks for less.

Relaxin' with Epethiya leggings and the dog

This is what my wife had to say about the sunset mountain leggings:

  • "Oooooo" (first sound she made opening the package)
  • Durable and made very well
  • Material is soft and comfy

Oh, and be sure to check the sizing guide before ordering! You might think you're a size L, for example, but in this case you might be a size M.

Epethiya's collection of leggings will give your legs a breathable, yet warm feeling. I think my wife can probably get away with wearing them in winter even. Wear your leggings at yoga class, to the gym, or just at home.

$50 Amazon gift card and author Brandon Ellis [giveaway]

They think they are alone. They are mistaken. Now they face annihilation.

Brandon Ellis is an award winning author and will keep you on the edge of your seat in his thrillers, fantasy books, and sci-fi books.

Brandon recently did a Kindle countdown for his book The Veil Rising. He knows how to tell a story that will keep the audience glued to the page. He likes to write in truthful, educational, and fun ways. He calls this "mystery history."

What is mystery history?
  • It is a history we aren’t told in school.
  • It is a continual discovery of our past.
  • It is everything from conspiracies that come to light, ancient secrets exposed, and the uncovering of places and cultures that were once thought of as myths.

The characters in The Veil Rising have no known enemies, have never been threatened, and certainly have never experienced carnage. Because of this, they aren't prepared for what's coming.

They’ve lived in orbit around planet Lumus and have for for centuries and, for all they know, no one else exists but them.

However, they don’t know how their race got here. No history book has an answer and no historian has the guts to find out. It’s as if the human race originated in orbit around this planet. Any knowledge of their distant past has either been erased or their Prime Director is correct–they were birthed here.

Most don’t question it. Some do.

So who wants to win something?! Brandon Ellis and I have partnered up to give away a $50 Amazon gift card to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Punk Paperie's sarcastic greeting cards [giveaway]

Sometimes you just need to act like yourself and tell your friend they're an a-hole. We all do it. If you don't ever identify with that, don't read any further.

Punk Paperie started in a basement in Hoboken, New Jersey, to the sounds of drunk Mario Kart and the smells of drank PBR. That's what the founders say anyhow. I actually misread "drank PBR" as "dank PBR." All the same I suppose.

The two founders, Adam and Josh, bonded over being a-holes to each other. It's what guys do. If only Josh would change his name to Eve, they could have a nice lil' marketing gimmick.

Punk Paperie was created from the need for greeting cards that reflected the feelings of the sassy, sarcastic folks. Like me! They recognize that sometimes we like to tell your friend "Happy Birthday, ****face." It’s human nature.

Not all the cards have curses on them, don't worry.

Check out the Mother's Day card above, which is what I gave my Mom. She's old-fashioned and doesn't always appreciate sarcastic stuff, but she actually liked this card and was even curious enough to ask about Punk Paperie. This fact alone means you should try it too.

The card comes with a fancy gold-foil lined envelope, a magenta stamp of approval, and is made in the USA from high quality matte paper.

Need a card for more than one occasion? Grab a 12-card Big Box and you're set for the entire year. No need to wander aimlessly through stores for at least the next twelve months. The Big Box gets you:
  • 1 x Happy Birthday - Death is Inevitable
  • 1 x Happy Birthday - This Card is a Social Obligation
  • 1 x Happy Birthday - Fuckface
  • 1 x Happy Wedding Day - I Owe Someone 20 Bucks
  • 1 x Happy Anniversary - This is Very Important to Me
  • 1 x Get Well Soon - Funerals are Expensive
  • 1 x Thank You - Did You Keep the Receipt?
  • 1 x Congrats on Graduating - You Did What Was Expected of You
  • 1 x Merry Christmas - Ho
  • 1 x Happy Valentine's Day - Safe Word is "Taco"
  • 1 x Happy Mother's Day - From Your Masterpiece
  • 1 x Happy Father's Day - Your Parenting Has Been Sufficient

So who wants some cards?! The folks at Punk Paperie have been gracious enough to offer a 12-card Big Box set to one lucky Giveaway Guy reader.

Custom pet portraits by Gillian Ussher

For the dog lovers who enjoy keepsakes of their companion, check out artist Gillian Ussher! I got my hands (or should I say paws) on an original portrait of my dog, Henry.

Gillian Ussher is an Irish artist based in Derbyshire, UK. She's covered many subjects but specializes in animal portraits due to her love of pets and wildlife. She also is the proud of owner of a Vizsla, named Rua, who came to her from VizslaRescue.org. Learn more about Rua here.

A commissioned portrait is the perfect way to capture the personality of your pet, and it's a great keepsake. I've got my portrait up on the wall (more about this soon). Many clients who have commissioned a portrait for the first time have had questions, so feel free to ask away!

Original pastel portrait of Henry the Vizsla, 10"x10"

You can either commission a portrait from Gillian (shoot her an email at gillian@perpetualportraits.co.uk), purchase prints of originals in her store, or buy other things like pillows and tote bags featuring her work.

Working with Gillian by email was a breeze. She even sent me updates of her portrait of Henry (my Vizsla), which was pretty cool and a nice surprise. It got me excited about the final product.

...And I was beyond pleased with the finished portrait - Gillian's talent is truly amazing. I've told all of my Vizsla-owning friends about her, and she deserves the recognition. I highly recommend her for a commissioned portrait. Don't hesitate to ask her about putting your pet on paper!

10"x10" pastel portrait of Henry the Vizsla, 12"x12" maple frame

The portrait came in the mail safely and was well-protected and secured. I bought a mat and frame so I could hang it up on the wall, and now it's hanging in our living room as you'll see above. Looks awesome, right?

I might have to ask for one of my cat, Jasper. Poor guy has to see Henry up on the wall everyday but not his own portrait. It's only fair he gets one...

Talented Ladies Club asked Gillian, when and why did you decide to focus on pet portraits?

As nobody had heard of me before and I didn’t have money to invest into an exhibition, I knew my only chance to earn money was by taking commissions.

I already knew how popular pet portraits were -everyone I know who has a dog seems to have a portrait. Also I had always drawn and painted animals, especially horses and dogs, so it was something I had a lot of practice in and was quite fast at.

I did get a shock when I realised what a saturated market it was, but I hoped that that meant there was a huge demand for it, and with lots of practice and realistic pricing I might earn enough to replace my administration job income.

Turnaround time for a custom portrait is generally 2-4 weeks, which varies depending on size and Gillian's waiting list. For busy times like Christmas you'll want to book a portrait at least 8-10 weeks in advance to ensure availability.

A one of a kind painting is waiting for you!

Disclosure: I was provided a complimentary product in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

$50 Amazon gift card and author Tonya Macalino [giveaway]

If you enjoy reading about the paranormal, Tonya Macalino might be right up your alley.

Tonya is an author of futuristic paranormal thrillers. An avid collector of folk history and folklore, she weaves the colorful tales of times past into a rich tapestry giving depth to the fast action of her stories.

Where does Tonya get her ideas?

Images from daydreams, leftover moments from the realm of the Sandman, impressions of what places must once have been. Ironically, the scene which inspired the book generally becomes the most wooden and awkward of the whole piece. Things that look beautiful as mental paintings don’t tend to flow all that well when populated by beings that are expected to behave believably.

Spectre of Intention is regarded by fellow author Teri Watanable as a cross-genre triumph. The 294-page story is spun with threads of romance, science fiction, mystery, and thrills, all cocooned into one gripping ride.

Kaitlin Osgood has a stowaway. Underneath the glossy shell of the Senior VP for Countermeasures International lurks the tattered remains of the girl she once was: street rat and thief, Ashley Porter. Every day, every decision is brittle with the fear of discovery.

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean on the cruise ship acting as the platform for the latest space elevator, she should finally be safe…

...safe from the sexy, enigmatic eyes of Director of Port Security Camden Glaswell who seems to see through Kaitlin’s ruse.

...safe from the relentless, burning pursuit of master thief, Stephan Chen, the chief architect of Kaitlin’s former life of crime—the onetime lover who haunts her still.

So who wants to win something?! Tonya Macalino and I have partnered up to give away a couple things. One lucky Giveaway Guy reader will win a copy of Spectre of Intention and another reader will a $50 Amazon gift card.

She finds the answer in a story about a magical cat called the Baruhk Sh'Toole. Unfortunately, she disappeared years ago, taking her secrets with her. With only a map of the queen's last known location and a vague story to go on, the she-cat leaves for an adventure to the Outer Reaches, a place where trappers will skin a cat alive and then consider killing it. There she must befriend a priest and hope he knows where to find the cat who can heal the world, but doesn't want to be found. Nadine casts the idea aside as the rantings of evil until she returns to her temple home to discover it in flames and her mentor vanished. When a visiting monk named Eli says her friend was taken by a religious extremist group looking for a book that can erase existence, Nadine realizes she must take the demon's warning seriously and go after them. Despite her misgivings about Eli, she takes him with her on what promises to be a fur-raising adventure. An interview with author Melinda Kucsera

If the name Melinda Kucsera sounds familiar it might be because I featured one of her books on my blog recently. This time I have a short interview to share, and she's put a twist on her answers...

In 2014, life set a deadline for author Melinda.

On her late sister's birthday, Melinda published Curse Breaker: Enchanted in its entirety. In the Author's Note at the end of the book, she promises to never stop writing or publishing until she has no more stories left to tell.

What inspires you to write?
Melinda is inspired by her cast of wonderful characters. And would you look at that? I happen to be one of those characters. Our faithful scribe couldn't be reached for this interview because we, her loving characters, locked her in a tower. She'll be released when she finishes Curse Breaker: Faceted then locked up again until she finishes the sequel. From her tower, she has a 360-degree view of all our shenanigans for ease of chronicling. Aren't we the best characters in the world? How many authors have an army surrounding their tower that allows no one entrance? Wait a minute—what is that dragon doing here? Hey! Don't you dare abscond with our author!

How long will it take to write our next adventure?
That's hard to say since our amazing scribe has been kidnapped twice by a competing set of characters. (And once by a dragon, but we're pretending that didn't happen despite the social proof that it did.) It took us several months to get her back. When we did, we discovered she had written them a book, and it became the second book in our series. (Curse Breaker 2: Darkens is out now by the way.)

What is our illustrious scribe working on right now?
Curse Breaker: Faceted which is now the third book in our series. No, I'm not sore about it. Curse Breaker 2: Darkens discloses some past events I dearly wanted to know. Plus it stars our wily commander being chased by monsters. Don't worry. He had it coming. But Curse Breaker 2: Darkens didn't star me. Who am I? Well, I am not Melinda, the author of my tales. I'm the son and favorite sidekick of the usual main character of the Curse Breaker series. You'll have to dip into the pages of Curse Breaker: Enchanted to discover my true identity or sign up to enjoy my weekly out-of-book jaunts. Melinda's also working on a short story for an anthology coming out this winter, but she refuses to comment on that.

What's the best writing tip you can offer an aspiring author?
Learn marketing. No really. Before you pen a single page, learn how to market your book. Otherwise, you, or in our case, your characters, will have to learn book marketing on the fly. You have no idea how many webinars and books we've read on marketing—and we still don't get it. Our inability to comprehend might stem from our fictional nature. We are characters in a fantasy series after all. Or we might just be figments of our uber creative, though not very business-minded creator. We don't like to dwell on that too much. We're not an existential bunch; we're more magical in nature.

What's a book written by another author everyone should read in their lifetime?
As many books as possible on your craft and also in and outside your chosen genre. Many authors confess that they don't read and that astounded not just us characters, but our author too. Our scribe, Melinda, is an audio book addict, and we're proud of that. She finishes an audio book every 1-2 days and often, she'll give them a second listen to learn from that author. Readers always ask her how she writes such immersive stories that resonate. Our answer? Because she reads everything, she can get her hands on. So grab a book and get that reading in anywhere you can.

Curse Breaker: Enchanted is an epic fantasy as it was meant to be. Fans of Anthony Ryan, Julliet Marillier, Michael J. Sullivan, Mercedes Lackey, Margaret Weis, and Tracy Hickman will enjoy Sarn's struggle against dark forces to save those he loves and find peace for a troubled ghost and himself.
