Amazon gift card & Kimberlee Bastian's Element Odysseys

It's time to accept a new mission...

Back in 1997, Kimberlee Ann Bastian went to a sleepover birthday party and watched a horror movie based on a Stephen King novel. (Anybody see "IT" recently?) The very next day she began to type her first short story and knew it was her "density" (BTTF reference) to be an author.

When she isn't writing or consuming other literary worlds, she enjoys hiking, cycling, and catching up on her favorite pop culture.

Kimberlee has a love affair with American nostalgia, mythology, and endless possibilities. This melting pot of elements is what prompted the creation of her epic Element Odysseys series, starting with her debut novel, The Breedling and the City in the Garden.

A year later, it was then followed up with the second book in the series, The Breedling and the Trickster, which released last month.

For immortal soulcatcher Buck, acclimating to newfound freedom in 1934 Chicago would have been impossible if not for the selfless actions of Charlie Reese. Now separated from his mortal friend, Buck accepts a new mission: to save the Shepherdess, whose unclaimed soul will soon stand trial in his old world, Euxinus.

Buck must find the Shepherdess’ beloved, the infamous Trickster Stingy Jack, and convince him to testify on behalf of her soul. Furthermore, Buck must ensure Stingy Jack is worthy to stand as her witness. It’s no easy feat; Hades, sworn enemy of Stingy Jack, threatens to thwart Buck’s mission at every twist and turn in hopes of seizing the Shepherdess’ soul—and the secret she holds—for himself.

Set on a whirwind path that leads him on an odyssey across the American Midwest, Buck must rely on untested skills while being ever mindful of his dangerous surroundings as he prepares himself for his return to the dark, desolate realm of Euxinus.

Still curious about the author? Here's a quick Q&A about books with Kimberlee...

What inspires you to write?
The human condition and underdogs.

How long does it take you to write a book, on average?
To write the first draft, I would say, maybe a few months.

What are you working on right now?
I just started the redraft of The Breedling and the Shepherdess Book Three in the Element Odyssey Series.

What's the best writing tip you can offer?
Once your favorite spot to write, milk it for all its worth. You need to be creatively comfortable in order to be effective.

What's a book written by another author everyone should read in their lifetime?
This is incredibly hard, but I have to choose Michael Shaara’s The Killer Angels.

So who wants to win something?! Kimberlee Bastian and I have partnered up to give away a couple items - one lucky Giveaway Guy reader will win the paperback series Element Odysseys and another reader will win a $20 Amazon gift card.
