Amazon gift card and author Krysten Lindsay Hager's return with a playlist

Join me in welcoming Krysten Lindsay Hager back to the blog! This author feature is going to include something I've never done before - music.

Krysten writes about friendship, self-esteem, fitting in, frenemies, crushes, fame, first loves, and values.

Who would have thought that daydreaming in math class would pay off for Krysten down the road? I can tell you that I paid attention for the most part considering I was going for my math degree! Krysten went a different route...

In True Colors, 13-year-old Landry Albright had friends convince her to enter a modeling competition. Unfortunately, this led to those same friends turning against her and stabbing her in the back. Landry made a number of new friends within the modeling world though, and learned a lot about relationships and trust.

True Colors embraces other issues that young teenage girls deal with as well. Landry's parents had to take jobs in different cities from one another, which caused them to basically live apart. At times, they faced a bit of a parenting power struggle. All of the experiences that Krysten takes Landry and the reader through really help uncover the characters true colors.

Ever created a soundtrack to a book? Think about these songs as the soundtrack to True Colors. It’s a mix of new songs, older ones, ones that spoke to Krysten when she needed them most, and ones she feels will speak to you. Here are just a few of them:

Shake It Off—Taylor Swift
I feel like this song could be an anthem for Landry as she gets ready to do her American Ingénue competition stuff while worried about what people at school will say about her.

Popular Song—MIKA ft. Ariana Grande
This song shows how Landry feels about Arianna and Yasmin and fitting in at school.

Over it—Katharine McPhee
The first time I heard this song was during a reality show where two friends were having a falling out. I think this song sums up Landry thinking about Ericka and Tori and having enough of fake friends.

Friends—Jody Watley Feat. Eric B. & Rakim
The lyrics say it all. The ultimate “frenemies” song. I blast this one when I’m hurt over something a friend has done.

Beautiful—Christina Aguilera
Great song about accepting yourself as you are and seeing the beauty within.
